September 29, 2017, yom shishi – 9th Tishri 5778 – Erev Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur begins in Israel after tonight’s dinner. Fasting for 25 hours.

This is the first time I am keeping this fast day – forced because I have been fasting since September 27, 2017, and with God’s help will be fasting up to and including November 2, 2017, the eve of my 80th birthday.

This came about; I have been in the psychiatric hospital ipw, Embrach for a few weeks:

On the evening of September 26, 2017, I prepared myself for sleep by “doing” 10 laps of the ward (walking very slowly). In accordance with the psychological instructions, I did not allow myself to be distracted by the yelling of a fellow patient, who was screaming like a banshee, or in purgatory from pain.

In the middle of the night, I woke up and became aware of my miserable being a Christian. My ego had been more important to me than the hellish pain of a fellow patient. With my fasting, I confess my guilt before God and my fellow man.

When the screaming started again yesterday evening, I stopped before the room door and asked God for help for the fellow patient. The practically immediately beginning silence was for me a wonderful prayer answer.
