There was a man named George Thomas once. A pastor in a small town in New England. One Easter Sunday morning he came with an old rusty bird cage and put it on the lectern. Eyebrows were raised questioningly and the pastor started to speak in response ….

“I went through town yesterday and saw a little boy coming up and swinging this bird cage. At the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, trembling with fear and cold. I stopped him and asked:” What do you mean? Son?”

“Only a few old birds,” came the answer.

“What are you going to do with them?” I asked.

“I’ll take her home and I’ll have fun with them,” he replied.

“I’m going to annoy them a bit, pluck their feathers and let them fight. I’ll have a great time.”

“And if you don’t feel like it afterwards, what will you do?”

“Oh, I have some cats,” said the little boy. “They like birds. I’ll give them to them.”

The pastor fell silent for a moment. “How much do you want my son for these birds?”

“Huh??!!! Why? You don’t want these birds. They’re ordinary old field birds. They don’t sing. They’re not even pretty.”

“How much?” the pastor asked again.

The boy eyed the pastor as if he was crazy and said, “$ 10?”

The pastor reached into his pocket and pulled out a ten-dollar bill. He placed him in the boy’s hand. The boy was gone instantly. The pastor picked up the cage and carried it carefully to the outskirts, where there was a tree and a meadow.

He put the cage down, opened the cage door, and by lightly tapping the bars, chased the birds outside and released them. Well, that explains the empty bird cage on the lectern.

Then the pastor began to tell the following story:

One day, Satan and Jesus had a conversation. Satan just came from the Garden of Eden and bragged, “Yes sir. I just caught a whole world full of people there. I set traps, lured them, and they couldn’t resist. Got them all!”

“What are you going to do with them?” asked Jesus.

Satan replies, “Oh, I’ll have fun with them! I’ll teach them marriage and divorce. How to hate and take advantage of each other.

How to drink, smoke and swear. I’ll show them how to invent pistols and bombs and how to kill each other. I’m really going to have a lot of fun! ”

“And what will you do when you’re done with them?” asked Jesus.

“Oh, I’m going to kill them,” Satan beamed proudly.

“How much do you want for them?” asked Jesus.

“Oh, you don’t want these people. They’re not good. Why? You’ll take them and they’ll hate you. They’ll spit on you, curse you, and kill you. You don’t want these people !!”

“How much?” Jesus asked again.

Satan looked at Jesus and scoffed, “All your blood, your tears and your life.”

Jesus said: “Bought!” And then he paid the price.

The pastor took the cage and left the desk.
